On Tuesday April 27, 2017 Ruth "Ruthie" O'Keefe let-go her fight with cancer and, surrounded by family and friends, peacefully passed to heaven.

She was born in Utica March 4, 1938 to Julia (Abdallah), of Tupper Lake and Theodore O'Keefe. She enjoyed spending her teen years working with horses at local stables in Rome, NY. She often travelled to Tupper Lake by train to spend summers with her cousins. She graduated from U.F.A. in 1956 and officially entered the evolving world of electronic engineering at General Electric in Utica, as well over the years at Chicago Pneumatic Tool, Sperry Rand and Utronics. Her most fond stories were of working in Arizona for Motorola,1962-64, in the Electronics and Aerospace Industry, re-living the excitement she would feel reading the man sized letters across the factory wall:"DESTINATION MARS!"  She was once again working for G.E. in Utica when, in July of 1969 from aboard Apollo 11, a Motorola radio transponder relayed the first words from the moon to earth.
She retired in 2001 after 27 years at Crouse-Hinds with the Quality Assurance Department. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, life-partner Lillian D. Hill and son Rodney N. Groth. Survivors include: her wife Therese M. Tallman, grandson Kieran Groth of Nashville, TN, niece Christie Teller of Liverpool, NY, great niece's Trisha Glover of MA and Kelly Teller of NYC and great nephew Chris Teller and family (Carolina, Anthony and Julia) of No. Syr..
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 13th, at Cedar Bay Park in DeWitt, NY from 11am-Dark. In-formal services will take place at 12pm and again at 5pm. We invite all those who knew Ruth to come and share their stories and great memories. We encourage donations in Ruth's name be made to any of the following organizations that Ruth cared about, supported and in turn, supported her. Francis House, NAVAC, ASPCA.
