Music by The Piano Brothers

Mary Louise "Molly" (Tait) Cordes, 93, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. She was born in Bronxville, NY. During the Great Depression she traveled with her family by steam ship through the Panama Canal to San Francisco, CA., witnessed the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge and within a year journeyed by automobile back to New York State. There, she finished high school and graduated from Finch Junior College. During WW II, she volunteered at a local hospital as a Candy Striper and after the war, married and moved to Syracuse.

She was predeceased by husband, Arthur V. Cordes, Jr., brother, Hon Albert E. Tait, Jr., sister, Margaret (Peggy) Coughlin and daughter-in-law, Jakobine Cordes. She was a member of the Manlius United Methodist Church.

She worked at the former Manlius School and at Syracuse University in the Dept. of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. After retiring, she designed and built her dream home in Cazenovia where she lived for 25 years and was affectionately known as the matriarch of Peth Rd.  She loved being surrounded by nature, watching deer, birds and other outdoor wildlife and picking berries. She was a pioneer in recycling and conserving.

Throughout her life, Molly was a model of hard work and determination. In earlier years she and her family opened their home to inner-city children, foreign students and others. She supported children in foreign countries, multiple animal charities and later was volunteer coordinator and board member for F-M Meals on Wheels.

She regularly expressed her love for and pride in her six children and an undeniable love of dogs. She will be remembered for her prodigious vocabulary, wit and sense of humor, as well as her proper etiquette and grace but most of all for always putting others before herself.

Molly is survived by her children, Arthur V. Cordes III, Robin, Bruce (Diana), Douglas, Cynthia and Christopher (Heather). Her life continues in the hearts of her 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and beloved nieces and nephews.

A time of greeting and sharing will be held on Sunday, May 7 at 1:00 pm and memorial service at 2:00 pm at the Manlius United Methodist Church, 111 Wesley St., Manlius, NY 13104.

I was one of those 'foreign' students back in 1980, who was the beneficiary of Molly's help and friendship. Her kindness and desire to help came through in every interaction.
My heartfelt condolences!

Please accept my condolence for your loss. Molly had a great personality and was generally spot on in her observations. She was a good friend to my mother, coming to the house and helping her get ready for her wedding. I am sure she will be missed.
