PETER (PETE) YUHAS, of Manlius, drove his John Deere home to Glory On Sunday, February 4. Born on February 10, 1932, Pete was a lifelong Syracuse and Manlius resident. He served on numerous committees at Manlius United Methodist Church, including lay leader, member to the annual conference, and a certified lay speaker for more than 45 years. He filled the pulpit at many local churches in CNY.  He believed that God gives us gifts and it is our obligation to use these gifts; “For all that we have is because of God’s love for us.”

Pete was a public servant; very active in local government- serving in numerous positions, a Mason, and a Shriner for over 53 years. After 38 years as a designer/project engineer, he retired from General Electric and continued to run his 70 acre farm-working the land where he always felt closest to God. Pete was a proud alumnus of Syracuse University, and an avid supporter of the Orange football and basketball programs.

Pete and his wife, Doris, met through a 4H exchange in 1951, and were in their 66th year of marriage. They enjoyed traveling, snow-birding in Zephyrhills, FL for 12 years, and attending productions at the Merry-go-Round Theater in Auburn. Pete was predeceased by his parents; Peter and Mary; brother, John; and nephew John. In addition to Doris, Pete is survived by two children: Peter, Jr. and Elaine (Tom) Conway; Three grandchildren: Nathanael (Andrea) Conway, Carolyn Wilson, and Joshua (Carrie) Conway; eight great grandchildren: Cadence, Alexander, Tristan, Finn, Ian, Andrew, Emily, and Brandon; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling Hours will be from 4-7pm at Manlius United Methodist Church on Friday, February 9. A funeral service will be held at the church on Pete’s 86th birthday, February 10th at 9:30am. Burial to follow at White Chapel Cemetery in DeWitt.

Contributions in Pete’s memory may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Dear Doris and family,
Please accept our condolences on the passing of Pete. We knew each other so long, when your kids and our kids were young. He did so much for Manlius UMC and Methodism in general. We will miss him.
Love,

I am so sorry to hear of Peter’s passing. He was an inspiration to me and many other masons. I am presently sick with Pneumonia so I won’t be able to attend his service.
