Judith Biermann Obituary

The adventurous, kind, and loving Judith "Judy" Snow Biermann, 76, of Liverpool, died on March 2, 2024 in her home with her husband at her side and daughter Maureen holding her hand. Judy was born in Syracuse, New York on February 25, 1948 to Louis Snow Jr. and Patricia Snow (Walshe). She graduated from Most Holy Rosary high school, received her undergraduate degree from Syracuse University, and earned her Master’s degree from Le Moyne College.

She married Paul Wendell Biermann in 1972 in Syracuse. While maintaining for decades that they met at an “ice cream parlor,” they actually first met at Shifty’s Bar on Syracuse’s North Side. They raised three daughters and in 2023 celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. Judy worked as a teacher before and after many years as a stay-at-home mom. Judy was a longtime parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Church and, when St. John’s closed, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She was a committed volunteer and always had time to help those in need. Judy taught third grade for 17 years at Holy Cross School in Dewitt before her retirement. She truly loved teaching and cared deeply for her students.

Judy loved learning and never ceased to approach the world with awe and wonder. She saw goodness in everyone she met, and made true friends everywhere she went. She loved cross-country skiing and continued to ski late into her ovarian cancer treatment, passing along her love for the sport to her family. She loved swimming and biking and found joy in meeting friends to go swimming up until a few weeks before she died. She was always up for an adventure.

Judy was a lifelong storyteller, regaling her children and grandchildren with stories that she would say "just poured out of her" without any plan or foresight. She enjoyed being part of a large family and loved spending time with her sisters and brothers, siblings-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. Her daughters joke that she had an encyclopedic knowledge of every street in Onondaga County, and everywhere you went, Judy was sure to meet someone she was connected to from some aspect of her life.

Judy loved to socialize and had many friends – from childhood and high school, her neighborhood, her book clubs (she was a voracious reader and had the best book recommendations), her colleagues at Holy Cross, and her “camp” friends from summers on Otisco Lake. Hers was a life well lived and well loved.

Judy is survived by her husband of 51 years, Paul (her favorite Scrabble and Catan opponent), her three daughters and their spouses: Brigid, Maureen (Kevin), and Christine (James), and grandchildren Flora, Charlie, Caroline, and Ian. She is also survived by her siblings, Louis III (Donna), Peter, Liz (Pat), Ursula, and Mary Dee, her mother-in-law Ruth and siblings-in-law Anne (David), Brenda (John), Gloria (Bill), Greg, Chris (Lora), and Sybil, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
