Eugene W. McGinley, 90, passed away October 17, 2018. He was born in Syracuse, NY on May 17, 1928. He was the son of the late William and Florence McGinley. He worked 35 years for Carrier Corporation, the last twenty years as Manager of Maintenance operations and retired in 1987. He was a Navy veteran and a graduate of Syracuse University School of Management. As a licensed pilot for 43 years, he had rebuilt and flown his own plane for several years. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. As a member of the National Rifle Association, he had won medals and trophies in rifle and pistol competition and for the last several years was involved in French and Indian war re-enactments as a member of a local Rogers Rangers unit. Being an avid Sherlock Holmes aficionado, he was a member of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London and the Mycroft Holmes Society of Syracuse. He had the distinction of being the published author of "The Firearms of Sherlock Holmes" as well as other stories, articles and poems. Gene was also an award winning portrait painter and sculptor. One of his greatest pleasures was joining his sons in a session of piano and guitar music. He enjoyed his family greatly and was always attentive to their welfare. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert McGinley. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anne; daughter, Karen Carney; three sons, Matthew (Linda) McGinley, Michael (Denise) McGinley and Thomas (Jennifer) McGinley; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. The McGinley family will receive friends at St. Matthew's Church on Friday Oct. 19th from 10-11am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11am. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt.
