Harold Hopkinson, Jr. Obituary

Harold Henry Hopkinson Jr., age 89, of Manlius, NY, died on May 1, 2017.  Born in Fort Fairfield, Maine on 1/19/28, Harold obtained a BS in Engineering at the University of Maine in Orono. He was a design engineer at Carrier Corporation (UT) until he retired and then consulted for Young & Franklin.  Harold served as a Manlius Village Trustee for 57 years, making him the longest elected official in NY State. Harold's long public service included taking an active role for the Village of Manlius in obtaining sanitary sewers, planning Mill Run Park, establishing the Manlius Fish Hatchery, organizing the Manlius Senior Center, and starting the Parks and Rec Advisory Board.  Harold served on the Manlius Library Board, the Manlius Historical Society, as Deputy Mayor, and on the Village of Manlius Planning Board.  Harold was a longtime volunteer blacksmith at the Manlius Museum and a member of the Artistic Blacksmiths of North America, starting a local chapter.  A man of many interests, he enjoyed drawing and painting, woodworking, genealogy, and playing the card game “ 45’s”  with his grandchildren. 
Harold met and married his wife of 68 years, Betty Noyes, during their college years.   They have six children:  Jonathan (Barb McDowell), David (Debra Crump), Wendy (Mark Ferreira), Heidi (Roberto Escobar), William, Harold III (Donna Hawkins); 12 grandchildren:  Daniel (Jennifer),  Khat, Elizabeth (Erik Kopchus), R. Aaron Kinder, Emily (Mark Chwalek), Jarrett and Andrew Ferreira, Lorell (Joey Fitzsimmons), Brian Escobar, Mateo (Amanda) Escobar, Samantha Escobar, Evan and Owen Heithecker and Harold Henry Hopkinson IV; and 7 great grandchildren.
