Nicholas Fukes

May 6, 1927 ~ March 29, 2018 (age 90)

Nicholas Fukes, 90, beloved husband and father, made his journey home to our Lord on Holy Thursday, March 29th. He passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the home he built for his family.

At the age of 20, Nick joined the US Marine Corp wherein he served his country in the South Pacific and traveled to see the Great Wall of China. In 1955, he married Veronica and they built their family to ultimately have nine children. He became a skilled craftsman and worked along-side his brothers doing masonry. He later became a member of the Bricklayers & Trowel International Trade Union. His work can be seen at various schools, churches and businesses. He was a jack of all trades and the family garage became Nick’s Garage, where he often repaired or maintained the family vehicles for many years. He loved to help his children do anything they needed with their own homes; often without even needing to ask for his help. He just did it because he enjoyed being around his children and loved the work.

Predeceased by sister, Irene and brothers, Stephen, Andrew and Matthew, he is survived by his wife of 62 years, Veronica, children David, Fr. Gary, Tom (Andrea), Elaine, Friar Jim, Dianne, Nancy Barnard (Ed), Linda Dent (Marc), and Susan; grandchildren Stephanie Saunders (Matt), Justin and Ivan Fukes, Christopher Barnard; brother John Fukes (Edna), and several nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 3 at St. Mary’s Church, Minoa, at 1 pm, followed by a Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. A private burial will be on April 5.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of CNY, or the American Cancer Society.
