Richard B. Stewart died peacefully with his family by his side at Francis House in Syracuse, NY, on November 30, 2019. Dick was 84 years old; he was born in Syracuse, NY on August 25, 1935. Dick is predeceased by his daughter Susan Taylor, his son Rick Stewart, and by their mother, Connie.
Dick is survived by his companion of 20 years, Carol Donadio and by his six surviving children: Cathy Semmensand her husband, Tom; Vicki Marshall and her husband,Owen; Scott Stewart and his partner David Haproff; Lisa Stewart and her fiancé Paul Pickett; Garret Stewart and Katie Stewart. His siblings Beverly Casson, Dan Abbott, and Donna Sakran, multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild, and a large extended family and friends also survive him.
Dick graduated from Onondaga Central School in 1953 andserved in the U.S. Army from 1954-1957 as Specialist First Class during the Korean War. He married Constance Smith in 1955, with whom he had six children, later married Colleen Cardinali in 1986 and had two more children, and then settled down with Carol Donadio in 1999. He worked at Nationwide Insurance from 1979 to 1999, as Property Manager until retiring. Prior to working at Nationwide, he worked at Loblaws Warehouse for 24 years.
Dick thoroughly enjoyed the great outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, golfing and boating. He was a life long member of the 100 Acre Club in Parishville, NY. For the past several years, Dick volunteered at Saint John’s Food Pantry. He was a big fan of Syracuse University sports and the New York Yankees.
He loved to just hang out with the guys; a special haunt for him was the Clear-A-Way Club (members only, hosted byhis nephew Marc Casson) in Baldwinsville. He also played cards for more than 50 years with a group of friends originally from Nationwide Insurance, hosted by Ed and Karen Airel, with Bob Haas, John Kotecki, Glenn Wiseman, and John Heisler. The group compromised some of his nearest and dearest friends. More than anything, he loved to tell stories, and he was a great conversationalist. He was just as comfortable sharing a good story with a close family member or chatting with a complete stranger.
Our beloved companion, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend will be sorely missed. We will always remember him with profound love.
