Agatha B. Pontorno, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, December 26, 2022. Born in Washington, DC, she was employed by the federal government for 30 years. She worked with the VA Administration in Washington, DC. After moving to Syracuse, she continued work with the VA, then with the military commissary at Hancock Field and retired her career working with the military police. She was a member of the Bishop Curley Counsel of the Columbiettes #3717, and was a communicant of St. Matthews Church. She loved bowling, SU Sports, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Paul Mario Pontorno; and her daughter Marietta Bethka. She is survived by her daughters Joanne (Ron) Russell of East Syracuse, Theresa (Mike) Kirsch of Chittenango, and Pauline (Bill) Dwyer of North Syracuse. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Paul, Amy, Carri, Tracy, Amanda, Greg, Keith, Christina, Andrew, Reannen, Hilliary and Christina; and fourteen Great-Grandchildren; She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be Wednesday January 4th at 10am in St. Matthew's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7pm at Mathewson-Forani Funeral Home, Inc., 206 Kinne St., East Syracuse.
