Alice M. (Muhl) Gratzer

Alice M. Gratzer, of East Syracuse passed away September 7th at Francis House after a courageous and graceful 10-year battle with cancer. Daughter of the late Charles and Anna Muhl she was born in Syracuse. Alice graduated from Cathedral Academy and OCC prior to joining the NY Telephone Company from which she retired after 30 years in the Accounting Department. Alice was a communicant of St. Matthew’s Church, a lifetime member of the telephone pioneers, and was involved with many community activities.

An avid SU sports fan and an active athlete herself, Alice enjoyed bowling, golfing, and skiing. One of her favorite past times was spending time at her cottage on Panther Lake and winters in Tucson. Among other interests, she was fond of antiquing, traveling, and gardening. Paramount in her life was her love for her family.

She was predeceased by brother Leonard Muhl, sister Joyce Maiorano. And brother-in-laws Harry Bell and Joe Maiorano.

Alice is survived by her husband John H. Gratzer, daughter Kathleen A. McQueeney of Marcellus, sons Douglas (Jean) of Tucson AZ, and Donald (Kelly) of Hinckley OH as well as seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was also survived by sister Doris Bell, sister-in-law Barbara Muhl,sister-in-law Ann Miller, and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Friday September 13th, 4 pm to 7 pm at Mathewson-Forani Funeral Home at 206 Kinne St, East Syracuse.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 am at St. Matthew’s Church in East Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Francis House or to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. Leave condolences to the family on the Tribute Wall
