Alice Mae Poynter of Sylvan Beach passed away on 11/30/2024 at the age of 83.
Alice worked almost her entire career at the Savoy Restaurant in Rome until she retired. She loved to knit, watch her birds, and yell at the squirrels! She was a woman who loved fiercely and was stronger than most. She was kind, funny, loving and spunky.
She was a mom to four children; Gary Pickerd, Ann (Pickerd) Velecki, Ray Poynter, and Elizabeth (Poynter) Rocker. She had two daughter-in-laws, Diane (Simmons) Pickerd and Kelly (Maher) Poynter, and one son-in-law, Daryl Rocker. She loved her children so much, but loved her grandchildren even more. She was blessed with eight of them; Heather (Pickerd) Blair, Lindsey Pickerd, Nicole Pickerd, Wyatt Poynter, Madeline Poynter, Colton Rocker, Garet Rocker and Gracie Poynter. She never missed an opportunity to brag about how wonderful, smart, beautiful and perfect her grandkids were. She truly loved nothing more in this world. In the last few years she has even been blessed with two beautiful great-grandchildren, Sarah Jane and Sylas Blair.
Alice was truly one of a kind, and loved her family most of all. She was predeceased by her parents, Doris Eddy and ElmoWilliams, her sister Vicky, her brother Punkie (Edward), her friend Ray and her daughter Ann. She had a big heart and did anything she could for her family. It was the most important thing to her, and all she ever wanted was to feel the love. She worked hard her entire life to provide for her kids and her grandkids and she welcomed hugs at every opportunity. Her kitties were her comfort too; Oreo and Nala. Nala would be by her side every single day; especially on days she was feeling down or under the weather.
There will be no services per Alice’s wishes. If you would like to do something in honor of her, please consider a donation to an animal rescue or to Alex’s Lemonade Stand (Foundation for Childhood Cancer). And I hope when you see a squirrel eating out of a bird feeder, you smile knowing that she is banging on the window for it to GO AWAY and save the food for her birds!!!
