Alice Makul Obituary

Alice A. Makul, 79 passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, in Syracuse, New York. She was born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut.

Alice was a teacher at heart and obtained a master's degree in developmental disabilities from Cortland State University.  She worked for The Syracuse City Schools for a short while but ultimately worked for the New York State as director of a treatment center for children and adults with developmental disabilities. She had a heart for and advocated for those who could not advocate for themselves.

Alice had a strong faith and lived her life in a way she felt was meaningful and honoring to her faith.  She most recently attended University United Methodist Church in Syracuse, NY along with her husband. She volunteered in whatever areas she felt she could contribute. She was a very kind person and treated everyone equally regardless of differences of opinion.  She could disagree vehemently about politics or football (Giants fan!) or basketball (Syracuse sports fan!) but at the end of the day she loved everyone and did not let others' opinions or views cloud her relationship with them.

She was an artist and enjoyed painting watercolors. She was also an avid quilter and produced many pieces including full sized quilts for those she loved and cared about and potholders that she produced in volume to give to charities and friends.

Alice is survived by her husband of 49 years Ronald Denby, her brother Joseph of Florida and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her mother Helen Andrukaitis, her father Joseph Makul, and her sisters Anne, Adele, and Aldona.

There will be a celebration of her life planned for the spring of 2026. Donations can be made to the Rescue Mission of Syracuse, The Spiritual Renewal Center of Syracuse, University United Methodist Church of Syracuse or to your favorite charity.
