Annamaria (Sacchi) Moneti, 90, of Syracuse, passed away November 11th, serene and grateful for a life well-lived. An authority on Italian language, she was the go-to person in New York State for correctness, authenticity and style.
Born in Milan she grew up in Rome and obtained the Doctorate in Letters with honors from the University of Rome - La Sapienza. In 1955, Annamaria married Giancarlo Moneti, a Professor of Physics. In 1968, the family moved to Syracuse where she raised five children. She taught Italian as Assistant Professor at Syracuse University. She authored or co-authored multiple editions of the popular 'Prego', 'Da Capo', and 'Amici' Italian language textbooks. She also published three pamphlets, several academic articles on didactics, and the novel 'Residente Straniera'.
She was very dedicated to her family, providing a loving, stable, and culturally rich home. She enjoyed evenings at the theatre, the symphony and chamber music concerts, and gatherings with friends, whom she cherished deeply. She is predeceased by her husband of 61 years. She is survived by her children Andrea, Francesca, Filippo, Carlo and Elena, grandsons Luca and Giancarlo and daughters-in-law Sylvia and Nadine.
