Ben Meyer Obituary

In loving memory of Ben E Meyer.
Ben said "there's always a beginning & an end" and we would say "and Ben, there is a middle too." Ben's beginning was his birth on Dec 7, 1960. He lived his middle to the utmost which ended when he lost his short battle with cancer on May 13th, 2020. But this is not the end, Ben. You now have a new beginning in heaven that never ends. Ben is predeceased by his beloved Stepdad, Earl Nelson and father Bruce Meyer; survived by his mother, Judith Nelson; siblings, Bruce (Aimee), Brad, Leesa (Abe) Maldonado, Marta Hewitt, Ginette (Yancy) Conant, Rosmyn (Anthony) Squitieri and Willard (Vickie); his dear friend & help mate, Grace Betz, 14 nieces & nephews, many cousins and many close friends.
Ben had a passion for life and loved everything it had to offer. Despite Ben's hardships in life, he never let them get him down but instead was one of the sweetest, thoughtful & compassionate people we could know & love. His favorite place to be was outside with nature thoroughly enjoying all its glory. He loved auctions & antiques, hiking & snowmobiling. He was instrumental in running the Groton Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club. He took pride in his several years working as an expert Mason. He loved his time with family & friends and was always ready to help anyone with what they needed. His favorite saying quoted in his high school yearbook was, "don't ever stop trying. It doesn't hurt to dream." He never stopped trying and never stopped dreaming.  Ben never kept still because there were things to do, places to go and people to see.... "and stuff."
He will be sorely missed by his loving family and many friends. A party to celebrate Ben's life will be held on July 25, at 4pm, at 6593 Branch Rd, Cortland. Bring your hiking shoes... "and stuff!"
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Groton Ridge Runners Club or to the Advanced Heart Failure Assistance Fund, box 679T, Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY 14642
