Obituary

Carmelina M. Scarcella, 89 years old, passed into her eternal rest on May 17, 2020.  Carmelina was born December 20. 1930 in Syracuse, New York to Leo and Giuseppina Casciano.  She spent most of her life in East Syracuse and Chittenango.  Carmelina loved children and devoted most of her working years in the child care industry, working a day care at her home for many years and also was employed at DeWitt Community Church’s Day Care Center until it closed.  Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. Her loving husband Sam Scarcella predeceased her. She is survived by her children, Cheryl (Joseph) Barnes, Joseph (Pamela) Scarcella, Leslie (Mike) Filozof and Lori (Tom) Sherman.  She will be greatly missed by her seven grandchildren, Lisa (Jeremy) Brault, Emily (John) Siderides, Andrea (James) White, Sam and Joey Scarcella, Nick and Sam Sherman and one great grandchild, Leo Brault. She is also survived by her sister, Frances (John) Sanson and many cherished nieces and nephews.  Carmelina is predeceased by her brothers, Joseph, Frank and Larry Casciano; her sister, Lena Jacopelle; her nephew and niece, Leonard Jacopelle and Joellen Wilson.
Due to current restrictions, services will be held privately at this time.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Contributions in Carmelina’s memory may be made to the Golisano Children’s Hospital, 750 E. Adams Street CAB 326, Syracuse, NY  13210.
