David Searles Obituary

SEARLES, David L, 86, died October 13, 2022 at home in Manlius, NY of natural causes surrounded by his family after bravely facing Alzheimer’s.  Born January 22, 1936 in Endicott, NY to Clarence & Jessie (Cunning) Searles, David married his high-school sweetheart, Winona Jean Balog, who survives him. He is also survived by his four children, Robert (Carol) Searles, Cheryll (George) Davis, Donna Komor and Bruce (Erica) Searles; sister Janice Grippin; brother Gary (Elizabeth) Searles; sixteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; many nieces & nephews.

A graduate of Horseheads High School (1954) and Elmira College (1971), David also served in the US Navy Reserves (1954-1962).  David was employed by several banks in his career, having worked his way up from teller to Executive Vice President, Head of Operations at Bucktail Bank & Trust.  His early retirement from banking led him to a brief ownership of Minute Man Press in Williamsport, PA. His favorite job however was in high school, mixing the ice cream for the local Brown’s Pharmacy soda counter.

David enjoyed playing basketball, racquetball and golf; camping and his four-wheel drive club friends; and coaching the Marine Midland “Mean Green Fighting Machine” Ladies softball team.  He was a member of Toastmasters in his younger years.  He served as Treasurer for nearly every organization in which he participated.

A loving husband, father, brother and friend, David will be greatly missed.  Services will be held at the convenience of the family.  Condolences and memories may be shared at https://www.mathewsonforani.com

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be directed to: Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 471 Mathews Rd, Boardman, Ohio 44512.
