Doris Yuhas, 91 Loving wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother
Doris Yuhas went home to Glory on February 4, 2025. She was born in Glen Cove, Long Island, NY to Ed and Anna Wylie who both immigrated to the US from Northern Ireland. The family moved to a chicken farm in Colts Neck, NJ when she was young where she worked with her father delivering eggs to NYC. Doris is survived by 2 of her 3 sisters: Yvonne Wylie of Solana Beach, CA; Noreen(Jim) Ritter of Carolina Shores, NC and predeceased by Betty(Dick) Dean of Easley, SC.
Doris married Peter Yuhas in 1952, moved to his family farm just outside of Manlius, NY (Pompey) and shared 65+ years before he passed on February 4, 2018. She is also survived by their daughter Elaine(Thomas) Conway of Dewitt and son Peter Yuhas of Fayetteville. She leaves 3 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren: Nathanael (Andrea) Conway with Tristan, Finn & Ian; Carolyn Wilson with Cadence & Alexander and Joshua(Carrie) Conway with Andrew, Emily & Brandon. She treasured time spent with all of them.
Doris was active in 4-H as a youth and then became a club leader as an adult, facilitating Elaine and other girls in Pompey to learn skills in nutrition, home management and community involvement. As an active member of the Manlius United Methodist Church for over 50 years, she served as president of UMW at district level, delivering mission work with compassion and love in Jesus’ name to women and children in need, locally and around the world. She was a dedicated mother, advocating for Peter’s independence, celebrating the value and uniqueness of all God’s children.
Doris worked as a secretary for GE and then AGWAY before retiring in 1981. She and Pete wintered in Florida for 20 years, enjoyed SU sports and traveling, often including Peter on adventures to Hawaii, Mexico, and cruising the Caribbean. She spent the last 7 years in Fayetteville making many new friends in the retirement community at Maple Downs.
A celebration of her life will be there (7220 E Genesee St) on May 4, 2 pm; all are welcome. Donations can be made to syracuse.younglife.org (Syracuse East NY24, camp scholarships)
