Edna Alvina Matilda (Gooss) Mills

Edna Alvina Mathilda Gooss Mills, Syracuse, New York, age 84 years, went to the Lord after a long illness on May 11, 2023.  Born to Otto and Louise Gooss (born Grosch), on June 18, 1938, Edna grew up in Bronx, New York. After graduating from Grace Lutheran High School, Edna attended Secretarial College of Manhattan, New York where she was hired to work in the banking industry. She later married Donald C. Mills Jr., Brooklyn NY at Fordham Lutheran Church, New York, on May 1, 1960. Together, they happily raised their three children, Donald C. Mills III, married to Monica née Wilson, Rome, New York, Richard A. Mills, married to  Regina née Toombs, Liverpool, New York and Linda Mills, Baldwinsville, New York.

Edna was a life long active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Baldwinsville, New York, serving as Sunday School teacher and Church Council member. Gardening, music, the outdoors and creating handcrafts were her passion.  She embroidered and knitted beautiful gifts for all in her family and community. She and Donald found great solace and peace together in the Adirondack Mountains.

Edna is preceded by her husband, Donald C. Mills III,(2010), her parents Otto and Louise Gooss, brother, Alfred Gooss and granddaughter Elaine Mills, (2004).

Edna is survived by her three children and their spouses, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two special nephews,  Scott and Jeff Meyer, and godchildren, Sarah Fries and Amy Fries Salansky.

Donations are requested to be made to the  Loretto Foundation. Many thanks to the Loretto Family and PACE for their five years of exceptional service to our mother in her final years.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 9 AM, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Baldwinsville, NY.
