January 29, 2024

George John Meyer, 92, of Minoa, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Jamaica Queens, NY to Nicholas and Florence (Werner) Meyer.

In February 1951, George enlisted as a musician in the U.S. Navy Band, playing the cornet and trumpet, while jointly serving on the staff of Admiral Arleigh Burke (Commander Cruiser Division Six). He was honorably discharged in January of 1955 with the rank of Petty Officer First Class. He then received a degree in Business Administration at Hofstra University.

He later married Anna Faulkner in April 1964 and they soon welcomed a son. The family moved from Long Island to Minoa, NY in 1974, making the village their home.

George enjoyed a 40-year career in banking, retiring in 1993, as assistant vice president of Merchant’s National Bank and Trust Company of Syracuse, NY; now known as M&T Bank. He oversaw ATM operations including the installation and troubleshooting of the first ATMs installed in upstate New York.

George enjoyed classical music, gardening, cruises, and the hunt for his next new car.

Along with his parents, George is predeceased by his wife Anna, daughter Susan, sister Mabel Roche, and brother Walter.

He is survived by his loving son and his wife, Bill and Deb Meyer of East Syracuse; grandsons: Justin (Ashley) Miller of Chittenango, Jason Miller of Truxton, Jeremy (Maggie) Miller of Felton, DE; great granddaughter Lilith Miller, and another great grandchild on the way.

Per George’s request, there will be no services. A celebration of life is planned for the future.
