Gilda Margaret (Bersani) Falco, age 94, of Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Amadeo and Christine Bersani. She graduated from Convent School and attended Mercyhurst College in PA. Gilda also attended Syracuse University College of Fine Arts. It was there that she met and married the late Joseph F. Falco with whom she bore five children, all of whom survive her, Sharon (Robert) Boryska, Gary (Linda) Falco, Mark Falco (Debra), David Falco and James Falco (Barbara). Gilda was predeceased by her four brothers, Frank, Leonard, Eugene and Armand and a sister, Sandra. In her later years, she dearly loved her companion, Ralph Petta and was saddened by his passing but grateful that he was in her life for several years. Gilda enjoyed her grandchildren, Maria, Dianna, Jilda, Anthony, Michael, Morgan and Joseph. She adored her great grandchildren, Olivia, Christian, Emerson, Robbie, Joey, Mathew, Marsole, Elias, Josiah, Khalilah, Cassandra, Natalie and Christian. She enjoyed and loved being with them.
Gilda was a homemaker and volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital for many years. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her hospitality and preparing scrumptious meals for large number of people, especially for special occasions and holidays. She enjoyed cooking, skiing, tennis and was passionate about painting. She took lessons at Everson Museaum and Fayetteville, NY. She helped beginning artists at a senior center when she lived in OR. Her artistic background gave her a flair for fashion as well and always dressed elegantly with style. Her excellent artwork was on display at the New York State Fair and at the Home and Arts building. All her children have artwork of hers displayed at their homes which will be her legacy.
Gilda was a patient, devoted and kind person and loved by those who knew her. She loved her family and supported them in all matters of their life. She was the rock that held her family together. She will be remembered for her smile, her open arms for hugs, a sense of humor and the ability to listen. She was a beautiful woman with a soul to match. She will be missed by all who knew her. A Celebration of Life will be at a later date to be announced.
