Helen Thayer Obituary

Helen I. Thayer, 95, of Baldwinsville passed away July 28th at St. Camillus nursing home with her loving family by her side.  Her outgoing personality, warmth and kindness will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, John Thayer, daughter, Paula Dodd (Douglas), two grandchildren (Jeremy [Colleen] and Lisa), four great-grandchildren (Cole, Julia, Jason and Cameron), and her much loved nieces Janet Thayer-Doynow and Susan Thayer.

Born in New York City to Helen Powers, she grew up in Worcester, MA, where she graduated high school and married her husband Edwin, who pre-deceased her in 2011.  It was in Worcester and on the coast of Maine where Helen cultivated her deep and life-long affection for all things New England, most especially the North Atlantic, big city Boston and her beloved Red Sox.

After moving with Edwin to Central New York in the early 1960's, she raised her children and worked for decades as a receptionist/office manager in the hearing aid industry, before eventually retiring in her late 70's.  Her fondness of music and entertainment was made apparent with the sounds of Sinatra and the Big Bands routinely filling her home.

Helen was a regular communicant of St. Matthew's church in Liverpool, where she was graced with enduring friendships and countless lasting memories.  She will be remembered by her family as a wonderful and devoted wife and mother, and by her friends as a fun-loving spirit, bubbling with personality.

Her family is grateful to the staff at St. Camillus for their compassion and kindness over the past year.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday August 17th at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 900 Vine St., Liverpool, followed by a reception in the church rectory.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are encouraged in Helen's memory to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. Leave condolences for the family on the Tribute Wall
