James Low Obituary

James Low, commonly known as Jim to many in the East Syracuse community, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 8, 2024. He was 91 years old. Born on October 28, 1932, Jim leaves behind a legacy of honor, dedication, and unwavering love for his family and country.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 66 loving years, Kathryn, his brother Bruce Low, and his two daughters Karen Low (Dana Radcliffe) and Susan Emmons (Tim). He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Brian Lissner, Michelle McInerney (Terrance), Andrew Emmons (Rachel), Eric Emmons, and great-granddaughter Maeve James (daughter of Michelle & Terrance).

The time he spent with his family is where Jim’s heart shined the most. Fondly referred to as “Pop”, he supported his grandkids at sporting and musical events.  He always had something to teach them, a lesson to learn, and many words of wisdom. Jim prided himself on always being there for others. His generosity was unmatched. If you mentioned you needed something, he would be right back dropping it off.

Throughout his life, Jim made significant contributions both in his professional career and his service to his country. He spent the majority of his working days in the electrical business, where he demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication. However, it was his service in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954 that truly exemplified his commitment to duty and honor.

During his time in the military, Jim was stationed near the 38th parallel in Pusan, serving in the 21st Battalion, AAA AW BN with the 25th Infantry Division. He began his service as a Private and rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class by the time of his honorable discharge. As a Platoon Sergeant, Jim exhibited exceptional leadership and bravery, earning multiple awards for his service.

Jim spent his retirement helping and teaching others, especially the younger generations, through schools in the local Syracuse area. He belonged to the Korean War Veterans Foundation and locally was a member of the Chapter 105 Veteran group.

Jim will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy of courage, integrity, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.  He was a family man, a handyman, and the greatest storyteller.

Special thank you to all those that helped him at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse. Especially those on floor 6C. Their amazing care and the friendship they provided for Jim and his family will never be forgotten.

At Jims request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place in April.
