James J. Shepherd

James J Shepherd, Jr- 76 of Syracuse passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 11, 2024. He was born and raised in Atlantic City, NJ and settled in the Syracuse area in the 1970’s. Jim is a veteran who did multiple tours while in the Army in Vietnam. He was employed by the City of Syracuse and retired from Hancock International Airport. In his spare time, he was happiest going to auctions. He also was a regular at estate sales and a frequent shopper at the local thrift shops, rummage sales and church sales. He also enjoyed listening to and watching most sports, especially SU games. James is predeceased by his parents Jane and James Shepherd,Sr and his canine best buddy Jack. He is survived by his sisters Joby & Carol of Atlantic City and his brother John in Hawaii. He is also survived by his Syracuse family Fran Pytko, Doug Pinnell and beagle Gracie. Jim will be remembered for his robust outgoing personality. “Mr James” always helped his friends in need. He was a knowledgeable man with many skills, always willing to share with others. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In his honor we should raise a glass of Heineken! Donations in Jim’s name can be made to the Food Pantry at St. Matthews Church in East Syracuse, NY. There will be a celebration of Jim’s life to be held Saturday October 5, 2024, from 3 PM to 6 PM at the Mattydale VFW 2000 Lemoyne Ave, Syracuse, NY 13208
