Janet Sloan (Cole) Rudolph

Janet Sloan Cole Rudolph died peacefully on October 29, 2022, surrounded by her family.  Janet was 95 years old. Janet was born on May 31, 1927 in Cleveland, OH to Edna Dorothy Sloan and Herbert Andrew Cole, both from Cleveland OH. She was an only child and was often surrounded by her many cousins. They spent time together at her grandparent’s cottage on Lake Erie. 

Janet loved attending the University of New Mexico, studying painting and art history and earned her BFA in 1948.  Janet also attended The Ohio State University where she earned her Master's of Fine Art in 1953.  She earned her teaching certificates in both Ohio and in New York. Janet volunteered in the Manlius community and taught Special Education at Pleasant Street Elementary School. In New Mexico, she developed an interest in Native American culture and craft, which continued in Central New York with the Onondaga Nation.  She retired from the Syracuse University College of Visual and Performing Arts in the Admissions Office. 

Janet was curious and funny; she had a quick wit and wry sense of humor.  Her life was centered around creativity and reading.  She loved animals. She loved Shakespeare and attended Syracuse University Lacrosse games. She will be celebrated in our memories. 

She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Tuemmler and her husband David Tuemmler and their two sons, Sean and Kasch Tuemmler of North Yarmouth, Maine; Elizabeth Rudolph of Manlius, New York; Katherine Rudolph and her husband Michael Silveira and their daughters, Emily and Claire Silveira of Yarmouth, Maine.
