Jessica Smith Obituary

On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, Jessica J. (Marino) Smith, a beautiful soul and loving mother, passed away at the age of 48. Jessica was born on April 6, 1972 in Syracuse, NY to Richard Marino and Bonnie (Serens) Bateson. Jessica attended East Syracuse-Minoa High School and graduated in 1990. She worked for a number of years at James Square Health and Rehabilitation Center as a Certified Nursing Assistant, continued as home babysitter for a handful of years, further advanced to Upstate Medical Hospital as a medical secretary.

Jessica was a loving and nurturing mother of two sons, Ryan Marino and Gavan Smith. She married Brandon Smith at Cinnamon Bay Beach on St. John USVI, one of her favorite places. Jessica’s bigger than life personality was gravitating. Jessica had a bigger than life personality that endeared her to so many. She had a natural gift for caring for others and was always there to help family and friends. Jessica was a fun, adventurous, and free spirited person who always wore her heart on her sleeve. With photography, Jessica was able to connect and capture special moments because of her ability and talent. She always enjoyed music, riding her bike at Onondaga Lake Park, the ocean, beautiful sunsets, and appreciating the beauty of nature.

Jessica was predeceased by her father Richard Marino and mother Bonnie Bateson.

She is survived by her two sons, Gavan Smith and Ryan Marino (soon to be daughter in law, Andrea Sielaff),  her close friend and “family forever” Brandon Smith, sisters Leslie Marino and Pamela Marino (Greg Wolfe),  her nephew Logan Wolfe and nieces Addyson Wolfe and Ruby Powell, several aunts, uncles, cousins, many loving friends, and Jessica’s dog Mia and her cats Oscar, Olivia, and Mr. Thumbs.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring to be announced at a later date.
