John D. Austin, 69, of Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully at home on October 21, 2024, with family and friends surrounding him with love.
John was survived by his partner Anne A. Austin, his daughter Nicole Austin (Alan Green), his granddaughters Annie and Louisa, his mother Mary D. Austin, his mother-in-law Ellen M. Alhart, his siblings: Theresa (Jeff), Martha, Ellen (Jolly), Carl (Barb), brother-in-law Peter (Margaret) sister-in-laws Elizabeth, Maureen (Pam), Julie (Daryl), Suzanne; nieces and nephews: Bryan, Matthew, Courtney, Maggie, Jack, Mary, Alex, Brendan, Carl, Mitchell, Brian, Katie, Kyle; and his great niece Nora.
He was predeceased by his father Carl Austin Sr., his sister, Mary Austin, father-in-law Cornelius Alhart, sister-in-law Elleen and nephew Jeffrey.
John was born on December 25,1954 in Key West, Florida. John graduated from Jamesville Dewitt High School in 1973 and went on to attend Clarkson University where he graduated in 1979 with a BS in Accounting.
John was an avid athlete and spent a lot of time on the podium collecting his medals. He competed in Ironmans, marathons, road races and cross country. John and Anne spent time officiating Triathlons throughout the Northeast.
John enjoyed officiating High School track and mentoring young athletes. John served on the board of CNY Tri Club, was Race director of the Cazenovia Triathlon, he served on Syracuse Track Club Board, was Race Director of the Mt. Goat Race, and Leader of STC Cross Country.
Anne would like to extend her personal thanks and gratitude to all of the wonderful Doctors, Nurses and staff at Hematology-Oncology of CNY and Upstate University Hospital. Their care and kindness helped us get through this difficult journey.
