Joseph A. Wiggins, aged 86, of Phoenix, NY, passed away on May 10, 2025, following a brief illness. Born on May 28, 1938, in Kasoag, NY, to Harrison and Virginia Luhrs (Wiggins), Joseph grew up on the family farm. He attended APW schools in Altmar and graduated with honors as the Salutatorian of his class.
After graduation, Joseph joined the US Air Force, serving at various bases across the United States and spending a year in Vietnam. He retired as a Master Sergeant. Following his military career, Joseph pursued several occupations before earning a teaching degree in History from the University of Wyoming. He taught at various schools until he retired. To stay active, he worked at Walmart in Texas before returning to NY in 2022.
Joseph is survived by his children, Joseph Wiggins of Myrtle Beach, Susanne (Jerry) Cole of Parish, NY, Ellen (Michael) French of Fulton, NY, Karen (Stan) Wegzyn of Fulton, NY, Mark (Cheryl) Wiggins of Hannibal, NY, Robin (Mark) Churchill of Florida, Jennifer Smith of NC; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his special friend Cindy Jasper of Syracuse, NY.
He is also survived by his siblings, Bev Ripka of Altmar, NY, Alice Trumble of Camden, NY, Jennie Dillabough of Parish, NY, John (Sharon) Wiggins of Camden, NY, and Tim (Mary) Wiggins of Altmar, NY; along with several nieces and nephews.
Joseph was predeceased by his wife Mary Wiggins of Texas, his parents Harrison Wiggins and Virginia Comstock, infant brother James Wiggins, sister Sue McCullagh, brother Fred Comstock, brother-in-laws Bernie Trumble and Don Ripka and his granddaughter, Danielle Register.
