Kate was born in Lansing Michigan and spent her early years in Kendellville, Indiana before moving to New York City and eventually settling in Central New York. She was Educated at Michigan State and Syracuse University.
Predeceased by her brother, Daniel Reid, her mother, Dorothy, and father James Corcoran. She is survived by four children Liza, Chad, Markey and Tessa and three grand children Julia, Duncan, and Steven; her step father, George Reid and her beloved cousin, Judith Green Johnson.
Retired after many years as a case manager for people with developmental disabilities, she was appreciated and admired for her personal and vigorous commitment to her many clients. In addition to her work, she had many passions including ceramics, film making, reading, watching movies, gardening and her beloved dogs. She loved long walks at Pratt’s Falls Park and Oakwood Cemetery. She loved spending time near water particularly her family cottage on Higgins Lake and later on Cape Cod. Kate will be remembered for her commitment to social justice and activism including her founding of the area’s first women’s consciousness raising group, as an early supporter of the women’s information center, a member of the Syracuse Peace Council and the women’s peace encampment.
Her burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Women’s Information Center or to the Alzheimer’s wing of the Cunningham at Loretto.
