Marianne Decker Obituary

Marianne Manning Decker of Bridgeport, NY passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born July 19, 1959 to Lynn and Marty Manning in Annapolis, MD, she traveled around the nation with her family due to Marty’s distinguished service in the Marine Corps. After the family settled in Liverpool, NY, she graduated as Valedictorian from The Franciscan Academy and then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology from St. Bonaventure University. After the birth of her daughters, she became an educator and worked as a teaching assistant in the Liverpool Central School District until her retirement in 2017.

Marianne would spend countless hours watching her birds and soaking in the beauty of nature on her beloved “crick”, and she never wasted an opportunity to take a boat ride. She was a certified trivia champion and Jeopardy enthusiast. She followed in the footsteps of both her parents by staying well informed of current events. An educator through and through, she was always showing those around her new and exciting ways of looking at the world and always took a little something back from their perspective in return.

Marianne is survived by her partner, Larry Sarkin. She is sister to Elizabeth Coppens (Thomas) of Hartford, NY, Kathleen Smith (Lewis) of Orange, VA, Suzanne Wronsky (Christopher) of Potomac, MD, Martin Manning III (Cynthia Jackson) of Baldwinsville, NY, Linda Arnold (Russ) of Baldwinsville, NY, Maria Donahue of Liverpool, NY, and Meg Koetz (Glenn) of Kennett Square, PA; mother to Sara Decker-Mix (Jeff) of Syracuse, NY and Rachel Decker (Luke Eggleston) of Germantown, MD. She is also “Gamma” to five beloved grandcats who she spoke to weekly. Marianne also had many loved ones she considered her “found family” that she cherished deeply and who helped support her on her journey and more students than she could count that she kept track of through the years.

In accordance with Marrianne’s wishes, no Funeral Mass or calling hours will be held. In lieu of flowers, please donate blood or make a contribution in her name to The Red Cross for the many others that depend on their services.
