Michael Robert "Mike" Hanna, age 66, died unexpectedly at his home in Syracuse
NY, on Wednesday August 3, 2022. He was loved and will remain forever in
our hearts.
Mike grew up in Utica and as an adult lived in Richmond, Virginia and Mesa, Arizona before
returning to central New York and starting a family. He spent much of his
career working in the flooring industry in sales, installation, and later as a
factory representative.
Mike was an avid movie, TV, and music fan as well as a talented guitar
player who played in several Utica area bands. In the '80s Mike and his brother
Jim played professionally as the duo Sterling Thomas and were one of the
regular acts in the Utica area music scene.
Mike is predeceased by his parents Carol (Daniel) van Leeuwen and Michael
Richard (Carol) Hanna. He is survived by his two daughters, Harmony Ann
(Michael) Collins and Christine Renee (Zachary) Fusco and his four
grandchildren, Aiden Collins, Joey Collins, Ari Fusco, and Jude Fusco. He
also leaves behind his ex-wife Michele Poma; four siblings, James Hanna, Anne
(Mark Dyson) Hanna-Dyson, Thomas Hanna, and Katrina (Ian Goldberg) Hanna; four
step-brothers,David (Patti) van Leeuwen, Aaron van Leeuwen, Jason (Gwendolyn)
van Leeuwen, and Benjamin (Stephanie Wiebke) van Leeuwen; and two half-sisters,
Margie Hanna and Alison Pavelka.
In accordance with Mike's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral
service. The family is planning a gathering to celebrate Mike's life, which
