Michael S. Sanson

Michael Samuel Sanson, 90, of East Syracuse, passed away peacefully January 10, 2021 surrounded by his two daughters.  Mike was born in Syracuse, NY, February 11, 1930 to Michael and Carmella Sanson. He graduated from East Syracuse High School in 1949.  In 1951 he enlisted in the Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War as a Field Wireman, receiving 6 medals of Honor for his service. Mike was a Yardmaster for New York Central, Penn Central & Conrail Railroads from 1949 to retirement in 1992. He enjoyed most of his retirement years living back in his original family home, spending countless hours on his gardens and chopping wood for sale.  He was a long-time active member of the Knights of Columbus Father Leo Finley Council #5186 serving as Grand Knight and financial secretary.  Mike had a huge heart and was known for his sarcastic humor. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him, especially his family.

Mike is predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Anne Barden Sanson, son Michael J. Sanson, parents Michael and Carmella, brother’s George and David, and sister, Virginia Sanson.  He is survived by his children, Peter of Carpenteria, CA, Kathleen Bloodough of East Syracuse and Nancy of Dewitt; grandson, Robert (Megan) Bloodough, granddaughter, Jenna Bloodough, great-grandson, Griffin Bloodough; brother, Richard (Louise) Sanson of Liverpool, sister- in- law,  Beverly Barden of Cazenovia and several nieces and nephews.

The family is very grateful for the incredible care Mike received from his doctors, nurses and the staff of Crouse Hospital’s Covid Unit and extends their deepest sympathies to all families grieving a loss from this tragic virus.

Calling hours will be held Monday January 18, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Minoa, NY with a funeral mass at 11 a.m. and burial following in the parish cemetery.
