Paul Hughes

Paul “Tall Paul” Hughes, 74, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. Born on April 28, 1949, to Raymond and Audrey Hughes in Oneonta, NY, he resided in both Indialantic, FL and Syracuse, NY most of his life. 

Paul was a talented athlete who found joy in football, surfing and basketball. While completing his bachelor’s in software engineering, he initially played football at the University of Florida. Go Gators. He later went on to obtain his master’s in psychology at Syracuse University. He was known for his dedication to the Alcoholics Anonymous community and helped countless people as a social worker during his last ten years of employment. 

Surviving to cherish his memory are his daughters, Amber Matson (Travis) and Dawn Tice (Joshua), and treasured granddaughters: Natalie, Chloe, Audrey and Ava; surviving siblings, Rebecca Hughes and Deborah Ehlers, predeceased by his brother: Philip Hughes. 

Of all his accomplishments, Paul’s greatest pride and achievement in life would be raising his two girls. Paul truly lived life to the fullest, spending time by the ocean, teaching his girls to ski, golfing with friends, exploring state parks, painting, and most of all, spending time with his friends and family. He had the precious ability to be present with those he loved. His legacy will be how he loved. To honor Paul’s life, a celebration is being planned, more information to come.

Celebration of Life will be June 2, 2024 from 3-5pm at The Yards Grille at Green Lakes State Park, 5648 Green Lakes Park Dr, 
Fayetteville, NY 13066
