Renate Marie Gaddis, age 82, of Tully, New York, sadly left us on December 23, 2022 following a long battle with cancer. Renate was born in Berlin, Germany, one year after the start of WWII and spent part of her childhood in post war shelters during the rebuilding of the country. She earned degrees in engineering and architectural drafting design and emigrated to the United States in 1961. She later earned a degree from Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications, where she became the first woman to hold the staff photographer position in the Niagara Mohawk Photography Department. Renate left Niagara Mohawk in 1998 and pursued photography on her own.
She is survived by her daughter, Janine Ursula Andrews, grandson, Stephen Lee Peterson and grandson, Seth Ryan Andrews. In lieu of sending flowers, we invite you to make a donation to the World Wildlife Federation @nwf.org in her honor. To honor Renate's memory, we are holding a celebration of her life in the Spring. Details will be announced at a later date.
