Robert “Bob” Bruce Hunt Jr. died from complications with Covid-19 on February 6, 2022.
Bob spent the majority of his life in Syracuse, NY where he made many friends, though he’d belly-laugh if you called him a people person. He enjoyed card games that ended with the sunrise, rock n roll, and sharing stories of his wild times in the 1970s. A natural storyteller, he was always able to hold an audience and never backed down from a healthy debate. Bob was an avid reader of authors like Kurt Vonnegut, John Irving, and Frank Herbert. He was a career postal worker and retired at the first opportunity.
In retirement, Bob fled the frigid, gray snow banks and high taxes of Central New York to spend time in the Dominican Republic, where he could soak up the sun while futilely trying to avoid burning his bald head. He built strong friendships with other expats and spent hours on the beach or by the pool enjoying El Presidentes, playing cards, and debating the state of the world. Even in the Dominican, he kept tabs on Syracuse basketball. A good clam bake with his sisters, visiting with his daughter and son, and fishing with his grandchildren could always lure him back to the States, during the warmer months, of course.
Carrying on Bob’s legacy are his partner Germaine Lorzeme and her children Analia and Mariely; children Rachel Ansari (Steve) and Brian Hunt (Missy), whom he shared with former spouse, Diane Castro; his step-children Shaun Thurmond, Marie Washington, and Eric Washington with former spouse Vivian Hunt; his grandchildren Leon, Eli, Ada, and August; his sisters Jan Crumb, Donna Stewart (John), and Perrianne Hunt; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was also blessed to have many friends like family. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Hunt Sr. and his mother Gwendolyn Hunt. Memorial gifts may be made to his girlfriend’s young daughters residing in the Dominican Republic. Visit https://gofund.me/f8b4fd71to learn more.
