Rodger W. Beck, 78, passed away peacefully at home, following a 2 1⁄2 year battle with cancer, with his wife by his side. He was born in Syracuse, New York, on January 24, 1948, and grew up on the family farm in Memphis, New York.
After graduating from Jordan-Elbridge High School, he went on to receive a bachelor's degree in journalism from Cornell University and a masters in sales and marketing from Syracuse University. Following a career in sales and marketing he retired from his own consulting firm in 2012.
Rodger was preceded by his parents William and Dorothy Laird Beck. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha Holt Beck, his daughter, Jennie Beck Hathorn and son-in-law, Gabe Hathorn, his son, Noah Beck and daughter-in-law, Emily Gibbons, and grandchildren, Maddie Hathorn, Maya Hathorn, Nolan Hathorn and Seamus Beck.
Rodger enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially at the family cottage. His hobbies included travel, reading, gardening and following his children and grandchildren as they participated in sports, music and art. His family would like to thank all the staff at Cayuga Cancer Center and the Hospicare and Palliative Care Services for their support, care and kindness for Rodger and our family during the last months, weeks and days of his life.
