Veronica (Walerski) Fukes

Veronica "Ronnie" Fukes (Walerski), 91, passed peacefully in her home into the loving arms of Jesus on the morning of Sunday, June 27th,  surrounded by 7 of her children. She is predeceased by her husband, Nicholas, and survived by her beloved children David, Fr. Gary (Diocese of Syracuse), Tom (Andrea), Elaine, Friar Jim (OFM Conv.), Dianne, Nancy Barnard (Ed), Linda Dent (Marc), and Susan; grandchildren Stephanie Saunders (Matthew), Justin and Ivan Fukes, Christopher Barnard, and great-grandson Toby Saunders; siblings Jane Carville (+Ed) and Stan Walerski (Barbara); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ronnie started working at a young age, but when she married and her children arrived, she selflessly devoted herself to them - always placing their needs above her own. After the youngest started school, she began working outside the home again, eventually retiring after 20 years of employment with Christian Brothers Academy.  She worked tirelessly to provide for her family without complaint. She preferred to care for others rather than they care for her; and by her example, she taught her children to love and care for others as well. Her children are often told by others of how sweet and kind she had been to them. 

Sundays were filled with attending church in the morning and Polish music on the radio in the afternoon. She imparted to her children and grandchildren her love for her Polish heritage, cuisine, and traditions. She taught her children the importance of faith and love for God, bringing them to church weekly with their dad and praying faithfully for them and many others; placing her trust in Jesus, with devotion to the Blessed Mother, and relying on the help of the Saints. 

She was the most supportive mother and so proud of all her children and grandchildren. When her new great-grandson, Toby, came for a visit or was shown to her by video, she would completely forget her struggles and would light up with smiles and joy. She has passed on to each of them a lifetime of cherished memories, wrapped in love. They will miss her quiet and deep affection, and will never forget the tenderness of her love.

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 11 am at St. Mary’s of Assumption Church, 401 S. Main St., Minoa. Viewing will precede the Mass at 10 am in the church. 

Burial immediately following at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 8668 County Route 57, Baldwinsville. 

Donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
